Growing Your Business From Referrals? - Why you need the internet.

 

I often speak to many professionals about the topic of growing their business.  Many in the real estate, financial advisor or other professional and consulting fields feel the internet offers little or no value to them since all of their business is through referrals.  This is an interesting position to take.  While I fully understand how the referral process works, (being a consultant myself), turning a blind eye to the internet and online marketing can be a professional's biggest marketing error.  Let us look into the referral process a bit more.Online Reputation Marketing

Many professionals attend networking events, speak at events or attend speaking events and mingle with potential customers.  Business cards get passed around and over time, your business card, pamphlet or brochure will land in a prospect's hand who is looking for your products or services.  Now your marketing information may come from a trusted source but with the way information is readily available to the customer, it is very easy for that customer to do their own due diligence by typing your name into Google.

You may not think the internet is a vital tool for your marketing efforts however your prospects think the internet is a vital tool for their due diligence.  Are you missing out on potential business because your competition has a better online presence than you?

Go ahead and Google your name.  Do you like what you see?  Then Google the name of your competitor?  What do you see for them?   Then put yourself in the shoes of your prospect?  Who do you think they will select?
